Allan graduated from the University of Maine in 1981 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Surveying Engineering. He became a State of Maine Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in 1989.

Allan worked at Plisga & Day from 1985 to 2006, before embarking on his own land surveying practice. He returned to Plisga & Day in 2021, working at the Good Deeds office in Belfast,

Allan works on boundary surveys and records research projects. He has varied interests, including antique automobiles and firearms.
